The garden, launched through a partnership with the Service-Learning Office and Transform Mid-Atlantic (TMA) AmeriCorps VISTA grant, welcomes students, faculty, staff, and community members. Volunteers till, plant, maintain beds, and water produce. "We're planting seeds that grow hope, nourishment, and opportunity for everyone involved," Student Garden Club member Anna Davis said.

For Prince George's Community College alum and Master Gardener volunteer Ashley Delgado, the PGCC Community Garden is more than a patch of soil; it's a place where hope, knowledge, and community take root. "PGCC shows that when we plant together, we all rise together," Delgado said. "I love teaching and helping others learn about gardening."

For residents along Route 214, access to fresh, affordable groceries has long been a challenge. According to the USDA, living more than a mile from a supermarket, supercenter, or large grocery store counts as low access to healthy food. At PGCC, students, staff, and community partners are finding a hands-on way to change that reality.

The PGCC Community Garden has grown into a gathering place where collaboration, service, and shared learning flourish. "The garden shows what we can achieve when we come together with purpose," Gavette Richardson-Duncan, Ed.D., director of government relations and community outreach, said. "We cultivate not only fresh produce, but also the connections that elevate our community."

More than just a green space, the garden serves as a living classroom. "By working side by side, we cultivate a stronger, healthier community," PGCC associate professor and co-advisor of the Student Garden Club Laura Miller, said.

Seasonal vegetables harvested from the garden are shared at PGCC's Owl Market and used in the Culinary Arts department, reinforcing the College's commitment to hands-on education, community partnerships, and providing healthy food to those in need.
