Professor Del Rhoden on Open Educational Resources and Student Benefits

July 12, 2019 - Professor Del Rhoden was part of the Faculty Senate when he learned about Prince George’s Community College’s initiative to fully implement Open Educational Resources (OERs) in courses. He has been using OERs in his courses in conjunction with the textbook for nearly five years, but transitioning his course to a fully functioning OER course is a move he thinks was both necessary and beneficial.

Professor Dishes on Why She’s in Favor of OERs

June 28, 2019 - Chemistry Professor Nadene Houser-Archield has been using OERs since 2005 and is one of few faculty members utilizing OERs in the Natural Sciences Department at the College. She said that textbooks are too static and that students don’t gain as much from them as they do from interactive activities and watching videos.

County and State Promise Scholarships Offer Hope, Last Dollar Aid

June 14, 2019 - In 2017, PGCC became an early adopter of the Promise Scholarship Program through a partnership with Prince George’s County. The scholarship serves as a last dollar resource for first-time college students who meet financial and academic eligibility requirements.
