How to Get Started

STEP 1 – APPLY TO PGCC

If you are new to PGCC or returning after being away for two years or more, your first step is to submit an application to the College.

There is no application fee, no essay, and most students receive their acceptance within 15 minutes.

High school students taking PGCC classes, including Dual Enrollment, Concurrent Enrollment, and Underage Talented and Gifted (TAG), have additional admissions requirements.

First-time Workforce Development and Continuing Education students must also complete Step 1, then check their email for additional registration information.

APPLY NOW

You're Admitted. Now What?

Log in to your PGCC Admissions Account to print your acceptance letter and view your personalized enrollment steps.

  1. Select the View button next to your application.
  2. Select the Decision tab to view or print your acceptance letter.
  3. Select the Supplemental Items & Documents tab to view your personalized enrollment steps.

General enrollment steps for first-time college, transfer, readmitted, and visiting students can be found below. Additional steps may apply to certain student groups or programs.

Step 2 – Activate Your MyPGCC Student Account

MyPGCC Portal is your College information hub. You can use it to activate your account. You will receive a username and a temporary password via email after you are admitted.

Note: Activate your account first, as you'll need it to complete the remaining steps.

If you did not receive your activation email or need additional assistance activating your MyPGCC account, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@pgcc.edu or 301-546-0637.

Step 3 – Complete New Student Orientation

If you have questions, you may find the answers here. Our New Student Orientation is an interactive experience that provides valuable information, can be completed right from your phone, and is required for all first-time and transfer students.

NSO only takes about twenty minutes, so now is a great time to start.

Note: NSO is optional for readmitted and visiting students.

Step 5 – Determine Placement

Not all students are the same. That's why PGCC relies on multiple measures to identify the right classes to begin or restart your college education. Our academic advisors use this information to place you in the most appropriate courses for your skill level, educational path, and goals.

Meet at least one requirement below before scheduling your advising appointment:
  • High school graduate with a 2.6 GPA within the last five years
  • Qualifying SAT, ACT, GED scores or an equivalent college placement exam within the last five years
  • Have completed 12 or more college credits
  • Complete PGCC's placement assessments
For more details on exemptions and other qualifying measures, see Exemptions and Waivers.
