High School Diploma Option (GED)

Do you want to earn your high school diploma?

Our Adult Education Program provides free GED® preparation and basic reading and math classes. Enrollment in the program is determined by placement test results, which help us assign learners to classes that match their skill levels.

We've designed our GED classes for adults getting ready to take the official GED® tests and needing to review their skills. These classes focus on reading, writing, math problem-solving, and test-taking strategies. Additionally, we offer social studies, science, and computer skills classes during the spring and summer semesters. Classes are scheduled throughout Prince George's County in the mornings, evenings, or Saturdays. Most classes run for a total of 60 hours each semester.

We also offer basic math and reading classes for adults who need to strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills before attempting the official GED® tests.

Students at all levels are responsible for purchasing their textbooks. Registration and placement testing are available at our main campus in Largo. Please consult the current registration schedule for more details.

Missed Registration for GED Classes?

  • Consider an online course. Enroll in an online course that allows you to practice and improve your basic skills at your own pace.
  • Join the waitlist. Get placed on the waitlist and be notified when the following registration schedule becomes available.
  • Study. While you wait, check out our Symbaloo site, which contains links to websites that will enhance your basic skills.
  • Take a GED Ready Practice Test. While waiting to join a class, take a GED Ready Practice Test to assess your readiness.

High School Diploma Option: National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) offers a high school diploma option for mature adults who have significant life experience and can demonstrate their academic competencies and life skills. Participants who successfully complete the program will earn a Maryland High School Diploma by creating an online portfolio that showcases their mastery of the required skills.

To enroll in the NEDP, individuals must meet qualifications in math, reading, and writing. The program is currently conducted online and has a total cost of $200.
