We offer prior-year tax preparation services to the community at no cost. 

How to Get Started

To start the process, make an appointment with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. An IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer will prepare your tax forms. Tax appointments are for 2024 Taxes and prior year.

This service is for low to moderate-income individuals in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas. All services are free

Prior Year Tax Preparation (2019-2024): Drop-Off Only

Filing Limitations

Maximum Income Limit: $67,000.

We do not prepare returns with the following:

  • Business returns with expenses over $25,000 or a net loss.
  • Extensive or complex stock transactions.
  • Rental property.
  • Moving expenses.
  • Purchase or sale of a home.
  • Office-in-home.
  • Nonresident/foreign student (1040NR).

 

Times and Process
Hours of Operation:

Monday: 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Wednesday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Thursday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Tax Process:
  • Tax preparation is by appointment only. No walk-ins.
  • Taxpayers should arrive at their scheduled time, complete all intake documents, and participate in an intake/interview session.
  • Taxpayers will drop off their tax documents for 2019-2024. Clients will pick up their completed returns the next week. 
  • Clients with one or two years may be eligible to complete their returns on-site/same day. 
  • If applicable, on-site returns will last 60-120 minutes. This includes intake/interview process, preparation and tax return review.

Make Your Tax Appointment

Please bring the following items:

  • Photo ID for yourself and your spouse
  • Original Social Security cards and ITIN letters are required for yourself, your spouse, and all dependents. No photocopies.
  • Social Security Number of your spouse, if married filing separately
  • Birth dates of dependents
  • Wage and earning statements (W-2, 1099R, Social Security, etc.)
  • Unemployment statement (1099G)
  • Bank interest statements
  • If insurance was purchased through the marketplace (www.Healthcare.gov) or State Marketplace, bring from 1095A
  • Insurance Statements (1095B or 1095C)
  • Stimulus Check Letters from IRS (for Prior Year Returns)
  • Advanced Child Care Credit Letters from IRS (for Prior Year Returns)
  • Bank check for direct deposit information
  • Last year’s tax returns, if available
  • All other tax documents
