- Interviewing clients to gather information on income, deductible expenses, and allowances.
- Preparing tax returns for individuals and small businesses, from simple to complex.
- Computing taxes owed or overpaid using machines and computers, while accurately completing forms based on instructions.
- Consulting tax law resources for atypical returns.
- Answering client questions and providing future tax planning advice.
- Reviewing financial records to determine necessary forms for tax return preparation.
- Explaining federal and state tax laws to clients.
Course Descriptions
FIN-367: Registered Tax Preparer
This course will provide you with a solid foundation in individual tax preparation, enabling you to complete all standard returns. You will focus on the majority of tax forms required to prepare returns for both yourself and the general public. Throughout the course, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to complete federal income tax returns and research tax issues. To ensure thorough learning, the course includes tax case scenarios for practice. Additionally, this course will prepare you for the Maryland State exam.
Prerequisite: Basic internet navigation knowledge and familiarity with preparing individual or business taxes.
