Transition ESL classes are Continuing Education (noncredit) courses designed for individuals with a strong English language foundation who want to improve their speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation, and fluency skills. The program also supports individuals preparing for Academic ESL (credit) classes or those currently enrolled in Academic ESL who need additional support.

  • If you are an intermediate, high intermediate, or advanced-level English language learner.
  • If you want to improve your English for life or work.
  • If you want to prepare for enrollment at the College.
  • If you want to prepare for the TOEFL iBT.
  • If you took the Accuplacer ESL test and were placed into Transition ESOL.
  • If you are an au pair.
  • If you want to join fun, engaging, and effective ESOL classes.

What Do Transition ESL Courses Offer?

  • Instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing skills.
  • Emphasis on listening, speaking, academic vocabulary, classroom communication, and American English pronunciation.
  • Preparation for PGCC's English placement test, the Accuplacer ESL Test.
  • Preparation for the TOEFL iBT test.
  • Preparation for the U.S. citizenship test.

When Are Courses Available?

We offer online and in-person courses at our main Largo campus and University Town Center.

  • Daytime classes: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Evening classes: 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday classes: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
