Plumbers install and repair the water, drainage, waste disposal, and gas systems in homes and commercial and industrial buildings. Plumbers also install plumbing fixtures such as bathtubs, showers, sinks, and toilets, and appliances such as dishwashers, waste disposers, and water heaters.
Prince George’s Community College provides the requisite training of the basic skills and knowledge needed for entry-level employment to launch a career in the plumbing profession.

Core Skills

Core Skills Option 1 or Option 2 are prerequisite courses for all NCCER Level 1 carpentry, electrical, HVAC/R, masonry, painting, and plumbing students.

Calculator and NCCER Core Curriculum textbook are required at first class for both Core Skills options.

Core Skills Option 1

OCU-410 Core: Introductory Craft Skills 7.25 CEUs Topics include introduction to basic safety; math; hand and power tools; construction drawings; basic rigging; materials handling; and employability and communication skills.

Core Skills Option 2

OCU-463 Core Construction Skills 8.10 CEUs This course equips students with the foundational knowledge needed prior to training in a building trade of their choice, and working on a construction job site. Students learn the concepts of basic safety on construction sites, math for the trades, blueprint reading, use of hand and power tools, rigging and material handling. They also learn the steps involved in pursuing a career in the building trades and how to communicate effectively in a construction setting. Successful completion of the course earns students the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Core Craft Skills credential as well as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 certification.

PLM-302 Plumbing, Level 1, Part 3 3.9 CEU Course is part three of four of the NCCER curriculum for Level 1 Plumbing. Students are introduced to copper, cast iron, carbon steel pipes and fittings. Prerequisite: PLM-301

PLM-303 Plumbing, Level 1, Part 4 3.9 CEU

PLM-303 Plumbing, Level 1, Part 4 3.9 CEU Course is part four of four of the NCCER curriculum for Level 1 Plumbing. Students are introduced to plumbing fixtures, drain waste and vent systems (DWV), and water distribution systems. Prerequisite: PLM-302
