The PGCC Community Garden began in 2023 as a partnership between the Service-Learning Office and a three-year Transform Mid-Atlantic (TMA) AmeriCorps VISTA grant. The garden welcomes all students, faculty, staff, and community members to enjoy its benefits. The Community Garden aims to address food security and promote healthy eating by increasing access to fresh and healthy produce, which is donated to the PGCC Cares Owl Market and community members.

Why Community Gardens Matter

  • Boosts Mental Health: Regular time spent in nature has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  • Supports Physical Wellness: Gardening provides access to fresh food and encourages physical activity.
  • Increases Community Empowerment: Shared gardening spaces foster bonding and build a stronger sense of community.
  • Promotes Environmental Stewardship: Gardens offer hands-on opportunities for environmental learning and sustainability.
