Kankouran Dancers in motion

"Coming Together As One" celebrates the music and dance of Mali, Senegal, and Guinea through the cultural traditions that KanKouran has preserved for 43 years.

History remembers Mali, Senegal, and Guinea as once being part of a unified nation. The people have always shared common cultural roots and a long tradition of producing dynamic singers, drummers, oral historians, dancers, and musicians who have shared Africa's artistic excellence with the world for countless generations. Although separated by superficial boundaries imposed by colonial powers, their family and cultural unity remain strong and continue to be preserved through traditional and modern artistic expressions.

Under the leadership of KanKouran Executive Artistic Director Assane Konte and Artistic Director Sue Ann Forde, this performance presents an elaborate showcase of choreography and rhythms that demonstrate a riveting and highly energized array of traditional dances celebrating the artistry and cultural unity of West Africa. The performance features KanKouran's senior company dancers, drummers, and community class performers.
