Cybersecurity, A.A.S. Program

The Cybersecurity Program transforms students into highly skilled cybersecurity professionals ready for entry-level positions such as data security analysts, systems security administrators, and network security administrators.

In this program, students will master the latest security technologies and examine the issues of information security awareness, network and system security breaches, systems and network security planning and defense, network security organization, as well as legal and ethical issues associated with cybersecurity. Students will also complete a capstone project in which they will design an information security system and implement a security strategy for a network.

Students completing this degree program will prepare for the Network+ and Security+ industry certification exams. Depending on the selected track, learners will also earn Cisco CCNA, CyberOps Associate, DevNet Associate, and Firewall industry certifications from top vendors such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Check Point. In addition to the A.A.S. degree, three certificates may be earned and applied toward the degree: Network Security Certificate, Cisco CCNA Preparation Certificate, and Cybersecurity Certificate.

Programs and Activities

Whether you're a student looking to get involved or a community member exploring cybersecurity opportunities, we have something for you.

Events

The Center for Cybersecurity hosts a dynamic series of events including Cybersecurity Awareness activities, AWS Jam competition, Girls in Cyber workshops, and industry-focused field trips that inspire students and strengthen hands‑on cyber skills across our community.

Capture the Flag

On May 1, PGCC Center for Cybersecurity hosted our first in-person Capture the Flag (CTF) event. Students participated in a hands-on cybersecurity competition that challenged them to solve real-world security scenarios in areas such as networking, cryptography, digital forensics, and operating system vulnerabilities. The event provided an engaging opportunity for students to build practical skills, collaborate with peers, and gain experience relevant to careers in cybersecurity.

    AWS Jam Event

On October 31, 2025, students participated in an interactive AWS Jam event, where they solved real-world, cloud-based cybersecurity challenges using Amazon Web Services, strengthening their technical and problem‑solving skills.

    Girls in Cyber Event

Hosted by the PGCC WiCyS student club, the Girls in Cyber event introduces high school students to cybersecurity through hands-on activities and engaging sessions led by guest speakers from industry and academia, exposing participants to real-world cyber careers and pathways into technology.

    AWS/NFL Sponsored Field Trip

On October 20, 2025, students attended the NFL and AWS Next Gen Symposium, a career‑building experience featuring keynote presentations, industry‑led panel discussions, mock interviews, résumé workshops, and networking with AWS recruiters. The symposium helped students explore career pathways and connect with professionals from both the NFL and AWS.

    Student Clubs

The PGCC Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) and HackerSpace student clubs provide hands-on learning, peer mentorship, and leadership opportunities, fostering an inclusive community for students interested in cybersecurity and ethical hacking.

    Partnerships

Through strategic partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Baltimore Cyber Range (BCR), students gain invaluable career preparation and hands‑on cybersecurity experience. The AWS partnership provides industry mentorship, career exposure, and engaging field trips, while the Cyber Workforce Accelerator program immerses students in real‑world cyber defense and incident‑response simulations—equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in today’s cybersecurity workforce.

    Competitions

Students compete in the National Cyber League (NCL), gaining practical experience in log analysis, password cracking, network traffic analysis, and incident response through real-world cybersecurity challenges.
