Program Overview

The PGCC Assisted Living Manager program provides training in supportive services, supervision, personalized assistance, or health-related services to meet the needs of residents who cannot perform or need assistance in activities of daily living.

This program enhances assisted living managers' skills in monitoring the day-to-day operations of an assisted living facility. Students who complete the program will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to advance in this gratifying career and manage the day-to-day operations of an assisted living facility.

Approved by the Office of Health Care Quality

The Prince George's Community College 80-hour Assisted Living Manager Program is approved by the Office of Health Care Quality, an agency within the Maryland Department of Health that monitors the quality of care in Maryland's health care facilities and community-based programs.

Job Outlook

According to the Department of Labor, employment of medical and health services managers in Maryland is expected to grow by 15% through the year 2027. Zippa (2022) projects that between 2018 and 2028 is expected to grow 13% and produce 21,900 job opportunities across the U.S.

Job opportunities should be good, especially for applicants with work experience in the health care field and strong business management skills. The median earnings for health service managers are approximately $84,190.

Prerequisites Needs

Anyone 16 years of age or older can enroll in either of these courses, but certification requires students to be 21 years of age or older.

Required Courses

ALM-300 Assisted Living Manager (8.25 CEUs)

The Assisted Living Manager program provides training in supportive services, supervision, personalized assistance, or health-related services to meet the needs of residents who cannot perform or need assistance in activities of daily living. This program enhances assisted living managers' skills in monitoring day-to-day operations in an assisted living facility. Students who complete the program will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to advance in this gratifying career and manage the day-to-day operations. An assisted living manager is an individual designated by a licensee to oversee the day-to-day operations of an assisted living program. COMAR 10.07.14 will be reviewed. Topics include the aging process; assessing, admitting, and feeding; clinical, mental, and behavioral management; facility operations; and emergency planning. This course has been approved by the Maryland Office of Health Care Quality.
