Andrew Bluestein is a full-time faculty member in the Paramedic Program.

Amanda Brickner

Amanda Brickner has worked as a respiratory therapist for over 15 years, providing care within a multidisciplinary approach. She began teaching at Prince George's Community College in 2014 as a clinical instructor. In 2016, she expanded her role to become the Health Sciences success and retention coach, while continuing her work with the Respiratory Therapy Program.

Inspired by the opportunity to support students through their educational journeys, she later assumed the position of director of Clinical Education for the program. In this role, she works with students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings to help them succeed.

The Respiratory Therapy Program at the College is recognized for its rigorous curriculum and high board exam pass rates, earning commendations from the National Board for Respiratory Care. Program graduates are well prepared to enter the workforce and thrive in the rewarding field of respiratory therapy.

Stephanie L. Burke

Stephanie L. Burke has over 20 years of experience in public health and serves as the program director and an associate professor in the Health Navigator Program. As a dedicated public health professional, she has been instrumental in advancing better health outcomes through prevention, educational outreach, and the development of impactful health campaigns. She also assists organizations in crafting effective health messaging.

Through her leadership, Professor Burke has fostered a positive and collaborative organizational culture that supports behavioral change and improves communities on a global scale. She brings expertise in population health management, health literacy, health equity, program development, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, she has extensive experience in community engagement, facilitating implicit bias and cultural competency training, and designing health programs that reach and resonate with targeted populations.

A native New Yorker now residing in the DMV area, Professor Burke is a foodie who loves the arts and enjoys traveling.

Karen Ferrigon-Brown is the Continuing Education coordinator at PGCC.

Joan Horstkamp

Joan Horstkamp has worked as a respiratory therapist in a major trauma center for more than 30 years. She began teaching critical care as a clinical instructor at Prince George's Community College in 1996, and in 2012, became the director of Clinical Education for the College's Respiratory Therapy Department. In 2023, she assumed the role of program director, overseeing all administrative and educational aspects of the program.

Her responsibilities include ensuring full compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) Accreditation Standards and CoARC's Policies and Procedures. Under her leadership, the program has earned the American Association for Respiratory Care Credentialing Success Award, which recognizes programs with Clinical Simulation Exam pass rates exceeding 90 percent, qualifying students for the Registered Respiratory Therapist credential.

Horstkamp is proud to lead a close-knit team that fosters a supportive and welcoming learning environment for all students.

Heidi McLean is a full-time faculty member and serves as the program director for the Medical Assisting Program

 

Dr. Christopher N. Howard

Dr. Christopher N. Howard serves as chair of the Allied Health Department. His doctoral research explored the intersection of leadership, quality improvement, and health equity, earning him a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Maryland School of Public Health. He also holds graduate degrees from Emory University and Howard University, and earned his bachelor's degree in health care administration from Oakwood University.

Dr. Howard's academic and professional experience includes leadership and faculty roles at Trinity Washington University, the University of Maryland, Howard University, and Oakwood University. His professional background also includes work with organizations such as the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, the Healthcare Council, the National Urban League, and AdventHealth.

Dr. Howard is passionate about training the next generation of health care leaders dedicated to improving the quality of care and eliminating health disparities.

Suzanne McCarthy is a full-time faculty member and serves as the program coordinator for the Radiography Program.

Rhonda Patterson

Rhonda Patterson began her career as a registered respiratory therapist working in hospital settings before deciding to share her expertise by teaching respiratory therapy courses at the community college level. After 30 years in the classroom, she retired from teaching and now supports students by coordinating Continuing Education classes.

Her favorite PGCC Core Commitment is Students First.

Tina R. Scott

Associate Professor Tina R. Scott has served as an academic and clinical instructor for the PGCC Radiography Program since 2017. In this role, she has guided students through her didactic and clinical education, prepared them for internships, and monitored their progress throughout the program. Most recently, she assumed the role of Clinical Coordinator, serving as the primary liaison between the Radiography Program and its network of clinical affiliates.

With more than 30 years of clinical experience in radiologic technology, Professor Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and practical insight to her teaching. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from Howard University and her Master of Science degree in human resources in 2001 from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Professor Scott remains active in the field, working part-time as a CT technologist at INOVA Alexandria Hospital. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking local trails and spending time with her family.
