Early and Middle College Programs provide the opportunity, through a rigorous dual enrollment course pathway, for first-generation and low socio-economic students to earn their high school diploma, specialized certification(s), and an associate and/or bachelor’s degree in a specified discipline within four to six years. In addition to providing early college access to underserved populations, data show that the early/middle college model improves retention, GPA and degree completion.
Prince George’s Community College and Prince George’s County Public Schools have established highly successful early/middle college programs with additional partners, including business and industry and four-year institutions to facilitate degree completion:
Academy of Health Sciences
Middle school students interested in a health career or teacher education can attend this four-year high school program and then go on to earn an associate degree and a high school diploma.
Teacher Preparation Pathway
Teacher Preparation Pathway is an additional degree option offered under the Academy of Health Sciences. This pathway provides students an opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching.
Information Technology Early College Program
In Fall 2014, with grant support from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Maryland four-year colleges, businesses, and county government partners, PGCC started the Information Technology Early College (ITEC) Program. The ITEC Program is comprised of students who attend the Chesapeake Math and Information Technology (C-M-I-T) Academy, a public charter school in Laurel, Maryland. The ITEC Program is designed to enroll students in grades 9-12. The current ITEC dual enrollment curriculum follows a track of the PGCC Information Technology A.A.S. in which students take courses that result in multiple industry certifications. Students have the opportunity to graduate at the end of four years with a high school diploma and an associate degree in Information Technology.
To be considered for admission to the ITEC Program, rising 9th-grade CMIT students must demonstrate academic readiness based upon Accuplacer Placement Exam scores.

P-Tech
P-Tech, or Pathways in Technology Early College, creates an opportunity for high school students to graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree in six years or less. Each P-TECH school works with industry partners and a local community college to ensure an up-to-date curriculum that is academically rigorous and economically relevant. The Prince George’s P-TECH offers two career pathways: Health Information Management and Hospitality Services Management.
3D Scholars Program
Through this scholarship program, eligible Prince George’s County public school students can earn dual credit at PGCC and then earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) for $10,000 or less. Three career pathways are available: Business Administration, Computer Networks and Cybersecurity, and Criminal Justice. For more information, visit https://www.pgcps.org/3dscholars/.
TalentReady at Largo High School

Maximum enrollment: Up to 25 new students admitted each year
TalentReady is an early College partnership between Prince George’s Community College and Largo High School.
The program expands student access to College and prepares students for careers in information technology. It also helps meet the growing demand for local IT talent in the nation’s capital.
