We invite you to join the Wisdom, Initiative, Support, and Excellence (W.I.S.E.) Path and take your next step toward academic success!

The W.I.S.E. Path Program is a student support system combining academic pathways, proactive advising, financial aid, and community engagement to help students persist and graduate on time.

How Do I Apply?

  1. Apply to PGCC.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Maryland Higher Education Commission ONE Application (MHEC One App), and accept any federal and state grant aid awarded.
  3. Complete all admission requirements.
  4. Check your PGCC email for important next steps from the WISE Path Staff.

Becoming a WISE Path Scholar

Participation in the WISE Path program is exclusively for the following students:

Eligibility ›

Eligibility for the Prince George’s County Promise Scholarship requires that students meet all of the following criteria:

  • Graduated from a Prince George's County high school within the last two years.
  • Current Prince George's County resident.
  • First-time college student who has attended no institution other than PGCC and holds no more than twelve (12) completed academic credits.
  • First-time college student with no more than 12 completed academic credits and no attendance at any institution other than PGCC.
    • Dual Enrollment credits are the only exception to the first-time student requirement.
  • Completed a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Maryland Higher Education Commission ONE Application (MHEC One App).

WISE Path at PGCC accepts most majors in the following degree programs:

  • Associate of Arts (A.A.)
  • Associate of Science (A.S.)
  • Associate of Applied Sciences (A.A.S.)
Ineligible Programs ›

Currently, WISE Path at PGCC does not accept the following degree programs and majors:

  • Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.)
  • Computer Science, A.S.
  • Engineering, A.S.

What's the Commitment?

Submit your WISE Path Program Commitment Agreement to participate in the WISE Path program for the next 3 years. After filling out the agreement, students will be assigned a WISE Path Advisor and begin planning for Learning Squad courses.

Academic Requirements ›
  • Enroll in an eligible associate program.
    • Computer Science, Education, and Engineering programs are ineligible at this time
  • Register for 12 or more credits each fall and spring semester.
  • Complete 30 credits every academic year (e.g, fall, spring, and summer).
  • Enroll in courses aligned with your program of study.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 each semester.
  • Graduate from Prince George’s Community College within three years.
Participation Requirements ›
  • New students must participate in learning squads for the first two semesters.
  • Meet with your W.I.S.E. Path advisor at least once a month.
  • Attend group activities (e.g., career workshops, tutoring).
  • File a FAFSA/MHEC One application every year by March 1.

Financial Incentives

The WISE program provides financial support and a variety of incentives to empower student success.

Tuition and Fees ›

This scholarship program provided to WISE Path Scholars is a last-dollar scholarship. Last-dollar scholarship means it will be calculated after all other grants and scholarships have been applied to tuition and fees.

Textbooks ›

The scholarship program covers textbooks in the PGCC College Store.

Monthly Incentive ›

A $50 e-gift card will be sent for attending monthly meetings with your WISE Path Advisor.

Momentum Milestone Incentive ›

A $100 e-gift card for earning and maintaining a 2.5 cumulative GPA for fall and spring semesters at the College.

 


This program is an official replication of the City University of New York's (CUNY) Accelerated Study in Academic Programs (ASAP), a nationally recognized initiative proven to double graduation rates by providing comprehensive financial, academic, and personal support.
