PGCC maintains comprehensive insurance protection to safeguard its people, property, and operations.
Overview
PGCC maintains comprehensive insurance protection through a hybrid risk financing approach. This combines self-insurance through the State of Maryland's Tort Claims Program and a Self-Insurance County risk insurance pool with commercial insurance policies for specialty exposures, such as student clinical placements, athletic programs, cyber and privacy liability, and special events.
This approach balances cost efficiency, adequate coverage, and risk transfer protection for all College operations. It also ensures PGCC's people, property, and operations are protected wherever official College business takes faculty, staff, and authorized representatives—whether on campus, across Maryland, or abroad.
Coverage Summary
PGCC's insurance and risk financing programs are coordinated through the Office of Risk Management and Insurance, under the Office of Policy and General Counsel.
- Liability: Protection for College employees, volunteers, and trustees acting within the scope of their duties.
- Property: Coverage for College-owned buildings, contents, and equipment against loss or damage across the Largo campus and satellite locations.
Reporting damage or loss: Departments must report property damage or loss immediately to the Office of Risk Management and Insurance by completing the First Incident Report to initiate an inspection and claim review. - Automobile: Liability and physical damage coverage for College-owned, rented, or authorized vehicles.
Driver requirements: Incidents involving vehicles must be reported promptly to PGCC Public Safety and the Office of Risk Management and Insurance. Complete the First Incident Report and submit it to Risk Management. - Employee theft and crime: Protection against losses resulting from dishonest or fraudulent acts.
